WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using a The button will show a preview of an item upgrades's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item upgrader kit and the current item Level upgrade level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrades upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if the items are from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
